Chance to Shine - Invitation to Lord’s!

Lords Cricket teamYear 5 and 6 pupils were delighted to be selected to visit the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground on Tuesday 16th June 2015. 15 pupils were chosen by our English Cricket Board coach Faisal, who has been working with KS2 children this term. They were selected because of their commitment and engagement over the 7 week programme.

The day started off very early to ensure we arrived in London in good time.

The children (and adults!) were amazed by the size of the cricket grounds. Throughout the day, the children met members of the England Woman’s Cricket Team, who currently hold the Ashes, including their talented coach Charlotte Edwards. They were also lucky enough to meet former England player Simon Jones MBE, who currently holds the record for a bowl of 97mph! That certainly impressed us all. The children had a great time getting autographs, visiting the Home changing rooms, sitting up high above the grounds in the media control room, decorating healthy cakes made from a surprising array of vegetables and even played matches on the infamous grounds! A super day was had by all and all the children were true ambassadors to our school – perfectly fitting with the spirit of the game, showing respect and passion.

Katy, Year 6 described her experiences ‘As the best day!’. Which summed up the feeling of us all.
