Overview
Thank you for visiting our class pages.

Here at Dashwood Academy we have two Reception classes: the Peach Class and the Pear Class.

The Peach Class is taught by Stephanie Kane and Teaching Assistant Laura Black.

The Pear Class is taught by Emma Ward and Teaching Assistant Leah Jakeman.

We also have other members of staff in school who often come and work in Reception too.

Reception is a very exciting year for the children, but also very important in terms of their learning and progress. Children start Reception at the age of 4 in September and leave in the summer term making their transition to year 1. Many children begin the year unable to read and write, and finish the year being able to read simple books and write sentences.

On this page there is some information about how our day is structured in Reception and it will also give you some information about what we are learning.

We have four short carpet times a day, led by an adult. The rest of the day is independent learning time or learning through play. During this time, both classrooms are open along with the outside area.  This allows the children to interact with others and gives them a large range of places to explore. Throughout the day the children have a mixture of adult led and child led activities to complete and areas to visit. These areas include:

• Construction • Role play - linked to our current topic • Water
• Art • Café/Snack station • Sand
• Maths • ICT & Computers • Mud Kitchen
• Writing • Small World • Finger Gym
• Phonics • Home Corner • Playdough
• Reading • Understanding the World/Science

The Café/Snack table is also always available to the children. Each day there is a different type of fresh fruit put out along with cartoons of fresh milk and water for the children to help themselves to.

All Reception children are entitled to free school meals, however some parent’s prefer to send a packed lunch instead.

On Wednesdays the children have an opportunity to go to our wildlife area in school for Forest School (outdoor learning). Each class will alternate in which weeks they go. Please see the class door for dates of these sessions as children will need a spare pair of old clothes and wellies on these days.

Homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be handed back in on a Thursday.

Details about our current topic and class story will be added to the website regularly. Our class newsletters will also provide more information on learning as well as vital dates and events. These can also be downloaded from the website.

Please ensure the office at school has your up to date information such as mobile phone number, so you can receive information text messages throughout the year.

If you have any queries Reception staff are always happy to answer any questions or worries, so please don’t hesitate to ask.
