Chinese New Year Celebrations

To begin our Chinese New Year Week, we looked at the traditions behind the story of the animals’ race across the river in which the rat won. We also looked at some videos of how families celebrate Chinese New Year. In group time, we passed around some Chinese decorations to look at and also had a go at using chopsticks, which was much harder than it looked! The children showed great resilience and determination and kept practising how to use them. We also practised our cutting skills and created some red paper lanterns and made some Chinese dragon masks, linked to the traditional dragon and lion parade dances.
