At Dashwood Banbury Academy, we believe that it is important for students to experience purposeful leadership opportunities to develop their deeper learning competencies. We aim to support our pupils to learn the art of building relationships within teams, define identities, and achieve tasks effectively by focusing on communication and interpersonal skills; collaboration; learning to learn and critical thinking; and complex problem solving. We hope to equip our pupils with skills to enable them to support their peers, mentor younger pupils and connect with the wider community such as local care homes and different religious communities.

Our pupils, here at Dashwood, are given many opportunities to support their peers through mentoring; support at lunchtimes such as Junior Leaders; and providing support in sporting events and PE lessons through Sports Leader roles. Often, great initiatives come from the pupils themselves and this year, our Year 6 pupils decided to make postcards to welcome our new pupils to Reception in September. Before they move on to Secondary School, Oak and Chestnut pupils wanted to give something back and leave a little legacy by sending their well-wishes to our new starters and share their favourite memories of their time at Dashwood Banbury Academy.
