A wonderful trip to Horley to compare a village to our home town of banbury

Both Silver Birch and Ash classes have had enjoyable days visiting Horley Village. We were given a tour of the village and told interesting facts about the history of Horley as well as learning about the materials used for many of the houses and thatched roofs. During our walk around the village, we saw pigs and horses and looked at the key differences between a village location and the town of Banbury. The school house where we were based used to be a tiny village school and is vastly different from Dashwood. The children also found out about Horley church and the history surrounding it before completing field sketches. Thank you to Mike and David, our knowledgeable guides, for hosting Dashwood and to all the children for their engagement.

Year 3 Wowed by Natural History museum visit!

Year 3 have definitely had a WOW start to their Dinosaur unit with a fun and engaging visit to The Natural History Museum in Oxford.

Knowledgeable staff gave an exciting fossil workshop with interesting facts about a range of dinosaurs, brought to life with a range of amazing fossils. Part of a huge Tyrannosaurus Rex’s jaw gave the children the opportunity to look for clues and ask questions in order to find out key facts about these fascinating creatures. Fossilised dinosaur poo with clear fish scales showed us what they ate.

The remainder of the visit involved the children exploring the wonderful exhibits and seeing lots of different skeletons from ancient dinosaurs to many creatures still alive today.

Well done to Year 3 for being so engaged and enthusiastic throughout.
